Feeling A Bit Droopy?

The holidays have a way of making us feel tired. From all the running and rushing around, planning, cooking, visiting etc...

Here are a couple of tips that can help:

1. Drink Green Tea. Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world. It is considered to be a nevous system stimulant due to the caffeine enhancing our mental and physical performance. Green Tea only has 30 mg of caffeine per cup, which is less than coffee at 100-150 mg per cup and black tea at 40-60 mg per cup. This enables people who are sensistive to caffeine to tolerate green tea.

Tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that signals the brain to increase alertness, but also at the same time, leaves you with a feeling of tranquility.

Drinking Green Tea also has additional health benefits by providing antioxidants that protect you from heart disease, cancer, helps to burn fat and diabetes.

2. For Brain Power, try Eleuthero. This is not a true form of ginsing, but this herb is believed to enhance mental and physcial performance and improve the body's resisitance to environmental stresses. Researchers have shown that eleuthero may be more effective than Gingko Biloba for improving cognitive function in middle age.

3. To beat Stress: Ginseng Root. The compounds in ginseng root called ginsenosides, appear to moderate stress related hormones. Ginsend preserves and improves energey levels.

When you are feeling fatigued, try to maximize eating fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds and minimize your intake of fat in meat/ dairy products and fried foods.
Remember to exercise, eat smaller meals to maintain blood sugar levels and use stress reduction and relaxation methods such as: yoga, tai chi or meditation.

A Mini Workout For Your Brain

Did you ever think that the conversations you have on a daiy basis can be good for your brain?

From a brain health standpoint, daily ten minute conversations can have the same positive effect on your brain as doing a crossword puzzle. Researchers have found that during these conversations, the interaction of listening, understanding, inferring, staying on topic and adapting to a new viewpoint are like mini workouts for your brain.

Researchers have also found that people who are more social, have a lower incidence of Alzheimer's and people who feel lonely have a higher incidence.

Some people actually think that socializing is a waste of time or think they have more important things to do, but being social does have its benefits. It is enjoyable, keeps your brain sharper and gives you an overall feeling of feeling better.

WARNING: Security Flaw with Microsoft Internet Explorer

There is a serious security flaw with Microsoft IE that you should be aware of. Users of IE are being urged by experts to switch browsers until this treat is fixed. You don’t have to uninstall IE, just don’t use it for awhile.

Our IT company at work has confirmed this security flaw and confirms that your computers could be taken over by others and your passwords can be stolen.

Microsoft is quickly trying to prepare an emergency patch to resolve this issue. Microsoft says it has detected attacks against IE 7.0 but said the "underlying vulnerability" was present in all versions of the browser.
Other browsers, such as Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari are not vulnerable to the flaw Microsoft has identified.

According to the article our IT company gave us, it states that hackers actually found this flaw before Microsoft did.
As many as 10,000 websites have been compromised since the vulnerability was discovered.

What You can Do:

1)Change IE security settings to high (Look under Tools/Internet Options)
2) Switch to a Windows user account with limited rights to change a PC's
Settings
3)With IE7 or 8 on Vista turn on Protected Mode
4)Ensure your PC is updated
5)Keep anti-virus and anti-spyware software up to date
6)Find an alternative browser for the time being so you are not affected

Send a FREE Thank You Card to a Solider

Xerox is doing something really special and I think everyone should take a few minutes out of their day and send a free card to a soldier.

If you go to this web site, letssaythanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these cards? Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them. Show your support and appreciation and just in time for the holidays.

This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. When on the above mentioned site, you pick one of the postcards or click on view all designs. Personalize the card by entering your message, your name and hometown and lastly, hit SEND. That’s it.

Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank yous.

Thank you for taking to time to support our military!

What is Feng Shui?

You have probably heard of Feng Shui, but do you really know what it is?

Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed in China more than 3,000 years ago. Feng Shui teaches us how to attract and enhance our life energy. You can accomplish this by balancing the energies of any space to bring you good health and good fortune.

Feng means wind and shui means water. Within the Chinese culture, wind and water have always been associated with good harvest and good health.

So, good feng shui means good fortune and bad fend shui means hardship or misfortune.

Did you know there are Financial power spots within any space?

Prosperity issues are associated with the back left corner of any space. If you stand at your front door and face into the house ~ your wealth area is at the back of the house on the left-hand side.

To find the wealth area of any room:: facing in from the doorway, it's the corner area in the back of the room on the left-hand side.

Will you find and locate the wealth areas at your office, living room, kitchen, and/or bedroom? Now that you can find your money power spots, here are some tips to apply feng shui to those areas:

Clean out any clutter. Getting rid of clutter is one of the most powerful ways to shift energy and allow the energy to move freely.

Fix anything that is broken. If it doesn’t work and if you can’t fix it, remove them so the money spots will work properly.

Use symbols of prosperity. A bowl of coins that you add your spare change into it every day, a "lucky bamboo" plant, or anything that symbolizes success and prosperity to you.

Use colors green and purple. Green symbolizes vitality and growth and purple is the color of wealth

If you neglect your money, it will neglect you, so balance your checkbook monthly and pay your bills on time

Clean the clutter out of your purse and wallet. If your money is not organized and is just crunched any old way, it will be as though you don’t value money.

Take a few moments every day to think about all the good things that happened to you and express gratitude for what you have received.

Live generously. Since money is a form of energy, it needs to flow through your life, not just into it. If you hoard and scrimp, it will work against more money coming in. Giving generously within your means will make space for greater abundance. If you don't have money to share, give as generously as you can of your time, energy, compassion, and appreciation.

The Feng Shui wealth area is considered "fortunate blessings”. The more you notice, appreciate, and express gratitude for blessings received, no matter how small, the more good things will come your way, including money.

Go to Mind, Body & Soul for a 4 part series about Feng Shui and learn how Feng Shui can work for you.

THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS TO SUCCESS

Whatever you want in life, you must give up something to get it.
The greater the value, the greater the sacrifice required of you.
Everything has a price.

There's a price to pay if you want to make things better,
and a price to pay for just leaving things as they are.

Nothing worthwhile ever comes easily.
Work, continuous work and hard work, is the only way to accomplish
results that last.
Use your imagination more than your memory to achieve success.

There is no success at bargain basement prices.
The highway to success is a toll road.

Being Thankful on Thanksgiving

Today as we celebrate Thanksgiving with our families and friends, will you truly take time out to reflect on what you are thankful for?

I have been doing that quite often this year. Pretty much on a daily basis...being thankful. For my health, for my life, for all I have, my family and friends, the opportunities that come my way and the love that surrounds me.

Abundance can be brought into your life if you declare to the universe that you are thankful. This can easily be done on a daily basis. I find that I'm in a better mood when I take time to appreciate something that makes me happy and be thankful for it. My heart seems to fill with happiness...

What are you thankful for?

I think many, many people take for granted what they have in their life. Maybe focusing only on the negatives...the problems, the stresses, the little things that may annoy or aggravate you. We might forget what we have and appreciate them.

Count your blessings. Take a moment each day and be thankful for something in your life. As you're driving in your car or sitting quietly by yourself, even while watching TV... just take a minute and be thankful.

As you see something that excites you or makes you feel good, as you smell food cooking, drive to work, come home to family, enjoying the company of friends or even your pet, your many possessions, your health and so on...be thankful!

Some people are not blessed as you and I are. Many have worse problems or live in worse conditions and/or simply do not have all that we have.

Take a break during your day...starting today...and be thankful and count your blessings...ask the universe for more of what makes you happy. Be positive and say...I like this...bring more more!

May you all enjoy your Thanksgiving. Many blessings to you all

Inspiring Positive Thoughts

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

A sharp tongue can cut your own throat.

If you want your dreams to come true, you mustn't oversleep.

Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.

The best vitamin for making friends..... B1.

The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.

The heaviest thing you can carry is a grudge.

One thing you can give and still keep...is your word.

You lie the loudest when you lie to yourself.

If you lack the courage to start, you have already finished.

One thing you can't recycle is wasted time.

Ideas won't work unless 'You' do.

Your mind is like a parachute...it functions only when open.

The 10 commandments are not a multiple choice.

The pursuit of happiness is the chase of a lifetime! It is never too late to become what you might have been.

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

Have you ever heard that saying...Laughter is the best medicine? I have heard people say that on many, many occasions. Did you know that laughter really does do a body good? There is truth in that saying...

Research studies have shown that laughing can actually stimulate a positive, physcial change in your body. Although having a good laugh can't 'cure' everything, but it certainly can help you deal with stress.

Negative thoughts can cause a chemical reaction in your brain that can increase stress and decrease your immunity. When you keep positive with positive thoughts and include laughter, your body releases chemicals that help fight stress.

Laughter also helps your body produce natural painkillers.

Have you ever used laughter or humor in a tough situation? Laughter can help you make 'light' of a situation, giving you an emotional release.

Make laughter a part of your day. Read a joke book, watch a funny tv show or movie, play a silly game with your kids or go to a comedy club for your dose of laughter.

Do your body some good...and laugh!

Are You Making These Website Mistakes:21 Website "Don'ts"

I think you would agree with me that Websites are valuable tools. They help establish a business and brand identity, attract new customers/clients and are used for communication.

A website is certainly a useful tool for marketing. Your home page should be well done and if it is not, it is basically worthless. Visitors will just move on to the next site of interest.

Have you ever come across a website that just makes you wonder...What Were They Thinking? Have you ever heard the saying that 'Less can be More'? It also is true with Websites. Keeping a Website Simple and straight to the point will do more for the person who is visiting than having Flash being overused, or bouncing icons or too many large pictures, etc...

Below is a List of Website Don'ts you may want to consider.

1. Don't try to say too much
2. Don't be too trendy
3. Don't pretend you are someone you're not
4. Don't chose to use images over content
5. Don't let your design overwhelm content
6. Don't use text and background colors that are hard on the eyes
7. Don't use busy or distracting backgrounds.
8. Don't use text that is too small to read
9. Don't allow your text to stretch across the entire page
10. Don't use paragraphs of type in all caps, bold or italic
11. Don't underline text that is not a link
12. Don't use links that are not clear about where they will take you
13. Don't use links that will take readers to useless pages
14. Don't use links that are not underlined
15. Don't have 'dead' links on your website
16. Don't use large graphics that take forever to load
17. Don't use meaningless or useless graphics
18. Don't use blinking text
19. Don't use animations that never stop
20. Don't use overly complex navigation
21. Don't have orphan pages. All pages have to lead you back to where you came from

How To Dispute Unpaid Collection Accounts~One Secret Revealed

Here's a bit of information from Chris, who is a master at teaching do it yourself credit repair.

How many times have you received a 'collection' letter out of the blue and know it is not yours? Or, received a letter regarding an item that has been previously paid? You may also have a balance on a debt that was 'charged off' but then receive a collection letter.

How many of you wonder...now what do I do? Like so many other people, you may not realize there IS something you can do other than panic or pay this money to the collection agency.

The below How To Tip is actually considered a credit repair 'secret'. Credit repair agencies even use this method, but it actually costs you much much more to have this method put to use for you. Why? DO IT YOURSELF! See more Credit Repair Secrets From Chris. Just click Here

Here's how to Dispute Unpaid Collection Accounts:

Dispute UNPAID collection accounts with the
collectors first and then the Credit Bureau.

Collection agencies are subject to Federal Law
and when a dispute is issued to them by a
consumer, they are required by law to stop all
collection attempts until they validate the debt
and provided consumers with documentation for the
account in question. In other words, the must
prove the debt.

The Debt may be correct or not but this is NOT
the issue, because collectors must comply with
the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
requirement of validating accounts.

Guess what?

It can take time, even months to get validated
with the proper documentation from creditors.
Many times the paperwork it is not in their
possession, especially if they purchased the
account.

I discovered that some times collectors will sue
you without having ADMISSIBLE evidence--most of
the times they have a false affidavits.

Why?

Because a debtor will usually never challenge the
evidence and a default judgment is awarded to the
collector.

Now here is the trick, if a collector verifies a
credit bureau dispute without reporting back to
them that this DEBT is in DISPUTE by the
consumer, they have violated the law.

See where I am going? If you dispute collectors
first you have a better chance of having the item
removed.

Also what's good about this strategy is, if the
account is reported as "disputed" by the
collector it is suppose to no longer be a factor
in the credit score. Why, because the account is
in dispute.

Many times the entry is deleted from the credit
report. This works great with medical bills. Send
the disputes about one day apart.

To The Good Ole Days...

After reading this, I found myself nodding my head...remembering my childhood, remembering the memories. I think there is something so truthful about these statements. The children of today might not get to experience life in this way and it's a shame. I hope you enjoy reading this. There are life lessons in each statement.

Here is a pretty neat little thing from Paul Harvey, a radio personality.
Paul Harvey Writes:

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in..

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.

I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what Ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it.. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbour's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

So...do you agree?

In This Volatile Market, Are You Staying Calm?

In today's turbulent economic situation, are you staying calm with regards to your retirement savings? One of the worst mistakes you should try to avoid is making panic driven decisions. These decisions are solely made due to your reaction to negative economic developments.

We are hearing the problems constantly in the news. They are real and one to be concerned about, but the market has always changed. The market and economy changes in cycles.

If you maintain a long term perspective concerning your 401 or other retirement account, you will continue to keep the benefits of the many years of planning and saving. It may be tempting to try and outperform the market by guessing which way they will go and then shifting your money between assets. Even experienced pros cannot guess or predict.

If you plan for long term, you can reduce your risk. Sticking to your plan no matter what the markets are doing over the short term is important to achieve your retirement saving goals. Getting the advice of a professional could help with investment strategy, goals, needs and your risk tolerance.

Stocks, bonds and cash all carry some risk, but at different levels. If the risk is greater, the potential for a greater return is there. Do not carry a great risk if you cannot comfortably tolerate it. Considering the fact that stocks, bonds and cash can go up and down with returns and have different levels of risk, you might be more comfortable having a mix of all three. Find the right balance that is right for you.

It is important for you to monitor your accounts from time to time. It may be necessary to rebalance your assets, but using a long term approach rather that panic driven decisions.

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs...Yours is the earth and everything that's in it...

Halloween Candy Recall

With Halloween just a couple days away, here is a recall you should be aware of.

Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being recalled due to the fact that they contain Melamine, the ingredient in milk product that has caused many infant deaths in china. These candies are sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. Please make sure to spread the word and DO NOT EAT THE PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and please let other parents know about this!

This recall is mainly affecting Canada, but they are not sure if this candy crossed the border into the US.
Read the Snopes article HERE

Thinking about all the trick or treating I did as a child and those of my son, I don't remember having to worry about evil acts by candy givers or candy recalls etc...My parents only concern was that I didn't eat ALL the candy before returning home.

I do remember how when the times had changed and parents had to worry about when the razor blade in apple scare surfaced and tainted candy was being handed out. WHY? Why do people do this?

Now you not only have to worry about what your children might eat that will make them ill, but you can't let children go trick or treating alone for fear of something bad happening to them.

With Today's constant recalls and awful acts happening all around us, worry me. Are you worried about letting your child go trick or treating? Has all your trust diminished?

I do hope all have a safe and fun Halloween.

In God We Trust

NBC took a poll on 'In God We Trust'. This poll allowed the media to know where the people stand on our faith in God and as a nation.

The results:

Should the motto "In God We Trust" be removed from U.S. currency?
(* 8392416 responses)

Yes. It's a violation of the principle of separation of church and state. 19%

No. The motto has historical and patriotic significance and does nothing to establish a state religion. 81%

Would you agree the motto should be removed or disagree?

As the Pledge of Allegiance states... one Nation under God...

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Things To Ponder...

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'.. But it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.

Why is 'bra' singular and 'panties' plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

Corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

A Chuckle For Today

It Seems that we live in a ' sue' Happy World. I hear stories of people who are suing for the craziest of reasons and much to my surprise, usually win.

In light of that...I thought this was pretty funny.

Money Saving Tips

These days it is important to spend less on things when you can. I think most people are feeling the pinch. Here are a few ways to save some money each money. It does add up.

1. Still Using a Land line?

If you have a cell phone, you probably don't need to keep that land line. A land line is expensive. If you must have a land line, think about switching to your local cable company. They offer bundle packages and/or promotions that will surely be less expensive.
I am one of those people that cannot give up my land line due to business reasons, but I am saving over $100 by switching to my cable company. Their promotion is valid for 2 years. I am saving quite a bit of money each month this way

2. Do you use the ATM frequently?

If you don't like to carry cash around like me, you may use an ATM that is close to you at the moment. Some ATM's charge up to $3.50 in fees just to take your money out. Use the ATM a few times and those fees add up. Instead, try to use the bank your associated with. No fees are charged.
What I have been doing lately is if I am at the food store or other store that allows you to receive cash back, I take money then. I am not charged any additional fees.

3. Still Buying Name Brands?

I know most people are in the habit of buying name brands and are hesitant to purchase store brand products. Have you ever compared labels? I have and realized the same ingredients are usually in both. I now buy store brands and save money each week. No one in my household even notices the difference. In fact, I like the store brand products more.

4. Eat Out Less

If you are on the go and eat dinner out often, try cutting that in half. If you order lunch out while at work, do the same. Considering lunches end up being about $10 each day by the time you add the tax and tip. That's $50 each week! $200 each month! Even by cutting it in half and bringing lunch from home, you can save $100 each month. And, healthier eating too.

5. Can't Give up your Pedicures or Manicures?

The shop I visit charge $25 for a pedicure and I give at least a $5 tip. I'll be honest, a pedicure is the most relaxing experience...right girls? Since summer's over, I'll get one last pedicure to last the winter. I usually bring a polish from home, so if needed, I can touch up when needed.

During the summer I cut my pedicures down to once a month. I saved $90 each month by doing this.
I do my own manicures, so I didn't have that expense to worry about. But, if you need to get manicures, try going a week or two without. These actions add up in savings each month.

6. Rent Movies?

If you've already given up on going out to the movies and paying those ridicules fees, but now rent movies, you can still save. The local food stores here in my NJ area offer machines that allow you to rent a movie for $1.00! that's right one dollar. Have you noticed if your food stores offer the same?

You can also get yourself a library card at your local library. They are free and usually libraries have an awesome video/audio department. Instead of paying those high cost rental fees, FREE is great.

7. Still Have a Gym Membership?

If you do and pay monthly fees, do you really go to the gym as much as you should? If you don't, that is wasted money. I recently read that gym members visit their gym once a week...four times a month. Does that justify you paying those monthly fees? There are many ways you can stay active at home that will cost you zero.
I love pilates and it cost me $10 to buy a CD. I use that often and incorporate a cardio workout by walking on a treadmill or using my tae bo CD. The savings here are incredible and honestly, I get a better workout and the time spent is focused on my routine, not on my surroundings, nor am I socializing with other gym members, or waiting to use machines etc...

Do you have any money saving tips you would like to share?

Something To Ponder

A friend of mine recently made me aware of something and it did leave me with puzzling thoughts.

This was something to ponder...

Is it just me,or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow?

The Only Thing That Is Truly Yours is Your Attitude

I found the below story in my email inbox. I enjoyed it so much, I thought it was worth sharing. It's a great motivator and proves once again that your attitude truly does matter in your life...

Jerry is the manager of a restaurant. He is always in a good mood.

When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would always reply:

'If I were any better, I would be twins!'

Many of the waiters at his restaurant quit their jobs when he changed jobs,

so they could follow him around from restaurant to restaurant

Why?

Because Jerry was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was always there, telling him how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him

'I don't get it! No one can be a positive person all of the time.. How do you do it?'

Jerry replied, 'Each morning I wake up and say to myself, I have two choices today. I can choose to be in a good mood or I can choose to be in a bad mood.

I always choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be victim or I can choose to learn from it. I always choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I always choose the positive side of life.'

'But it's not always that easy,' I protested.

'Yes it is,' Jerry said.

'Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk every situation is a choice.

You choose how you react to situations.. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood..

It's your choice how you live your life..'

Several years later, I heard that Jerry accidentally did something you are never supposed to do in the restaurant business.

He left the back door of his restaurant open. And then in the morning, he was robbed by three armed men.

While Jerry trying to open the safe box, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him.

Luckily, Jerry was found quickly and rushed to the hospital.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body..

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was, he replied, 'If I were any better, I'd be twins. Want to see my scars?'

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.

'The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,' Jerry replied.

'Then, after they shot me, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or could choose to die. I chose to live.'
'Weren't you scared' I asked?

Jerry continued, 'The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine.

But when they wheeled me into the Emergency Room and I saw the expression on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared.

In their eyes, I read 'He's a dead man..

I knew I needed to take action.'
'What did you do?' I asked.

'Well, there was a big nurse shouting questions at me,' said Jerry. 'She asked if I was allergic to anything.'

'Yes,' to bullets, I replied.

Over their laughter, I told them: 'I am choosing to live. Please operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.'

'Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude.

I learned from him that every day you have the choice to either enjoy your life or to hate it.

The only thing that is truly yours - that no one can control or take from you
is your attitude, so if you can take care of that, everything else in life becomes much easier.

Can Your Favorite Color Predict Your Perfect Job?

According to Careerbuilder.com, your favorite colors and which colors you prefer most to least, can help you figure out which career is best for you. Your color choices can reveal how you approach work, handle tasks and what types of workplaces is right for you.

First you pick the color you prefer most...red, yellow or blue. Then you choose the colors you prefer second...green, purple or orange and then achromatic colors...black, white or brown.

Your preferred color choice determines your talents and how you go about tasks. This color choice can also indicate what you overdo.

Here are some examples of what certain choices may reveal:

If you prefer: yellow, purple and white: You're the communicator.
Careers in corporate communications, marketing or religious occupations work best.

If you prefer: red, green and black: You're the investor.
Careers in finance, accounting, banking, manufacturing, property management, production analysis, investment, money management, consulting, product sales or teaching.

If you prefer: blue, orange and brown: You're the activist.

Household Tips to Make Your Life Easier

Hallmark has a new movie coming out called Dear Prudence. Jane Seymour stars as a talk show host who gives out household advice.

Below are some tips from the movie about using everyday household products to make your life a bit easier.

Windshield Wiper Frost Free Fluid: When you have to leave your car outside overnight in the winter, mix 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water and coat the windows with this solution. This vinegar and water combination will keep windshields ice and frost-free.

To keep cut flowers fresher longer by mixing up a homemade formula. Mix 1 pint warm water, 1 pint lemonade or a lemon-lime soft drink. Pour enough into the vase to cover the lower three to four inches of the stem. Here's how this formula works: the sugar in the mixture supplies energy to the flowers and the citric acid in the lemon helps preserve them.

To keep buttons from dropping off: Dab a drop of clear nail polish onto the thread the secures the buttons. This will harden and make it more difficult for thread to break off.

To help new or just cleaned drapes stay fresh and crisp looking, spray them with a few coats of unscented hair spay before hanging them up. Allow the hair spray to dry between applications.

To speed drying time of big bulky items and jeans, add a dry towel to the wet items you're placing in the dryer. The towel will help absorb some of the excess moisture.

When you need to touch up a scratch or other type of blemish on a painted wall use a drop of paint on a cotton swab to fix the problem. You won't waste a bunch of paint and you won't have to waste time cleaning a paintbrush.

Instead of throwing away a sponge that has a stale odor, simply toss it in the dishwasher and wash it with the next load of dishes. It will come out clean and fresh smelling and will kill any bacteria in the sponge, so it's a good idea to toss your sponges into the dishwasher often.

For sharper scissors simply take your dull scissors and cut through three layers of tin foil ten times. Cut some paper to test. Repeat if not sharp enough for you. Or...cut a sheet of medium-grade sand paper into small pieces!

Make giant ice cubes in muffin tins or plastic margarine bowls. These are perfect for using in picnic coolers or punch bowls. They look pretty and keep your drinks or food cold longer.

Get rid of tarnish on silver the easy way, place a piece of aluminum foil (shiny side up) on the bottom of a glass bowl or pan. Fill the container with a solution made of 2 cups boiling water and 3 teaspoons of baking soda, and you've made an inexpensive "bath" to soak your silver in. Your silver will shine like new in no time!

To keep lint and dust off glass top tables, wash them in a solution of warm water and fabric softener. Add one tablespoon of liquid fabric softener to one quart of warm water. The fabric softener will clean the glass inexpensively and will help keep lint from gathering on the glass. Also great for computer screens and TVs.

Make Children Play Outdoors

When I was a child, we didn’t have computers, video games or hand held devices to play with. We were always outside playing. Kick ball, hide and seek, tag, climbing trees, walking in the park, baseball, riding our bikes and any other game we thought of.

It seems the children of today do not know how to ‘play’ outside. They are too busy watching TV, playing video games or being on the computer. Never mind those who are dropped off at the mall to hang out doing nothing.

Lack of physical activity and eating fast foods is causing our children to be overweight. I brought my niece to the county fair last week and I was truly amazed at how many children I saw who were overweight. The ratio to the children I noticed who were of average weight was surprising. I don’t remember seeing my peers as a kid with excess pounds. Thinking back to your youth, do you remember any of your friends being overweight? It’s bothersome to me because I think parents are not getting involved with outside play with their children.

It’s never too late to help your kids get back in shape. Instead of sedentary games, being on the computer and watching tv or texting on the cell phone, introduce your kids to outside play. Maybe teach them the games you played as a kid. Have an old fashioned game of wiffle ball or kick ball. Sure they might roll their eyes, but you never know…they may end up enjoying it. The quality family time is a plus.

Some Ideas for Family Play Time:
Play tag or touch football
Have a family relay race
Fly a kite
Roller blade or roller skate
Ride bikes
Go swimming
Toss around a frisbee

Did you know according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the last 30 years the percentage of overweight children has increased?

Ages 2 to 5 yrs - increased from 5.0% to 13.9%
Ages 6 to 11 yrs - increased from 6.5% to 18.8%
Ages 12 to 19 yrs - incrased from 5.0% to 17.4%

Start your family on the road to healthier living by being more active...include outdoor play.

Helpful Flying Tips

You may be planning a trip that requires you to fly. If your destination requires a lengthy flight, you want to make sure you are comfortable. Planning ahead can prevent health problems. Your trip should be enjoyable and fun filled. You certainly don’t want your flight to put a damper on your vacation, nor slow you down.

Some suggestions when flying:

To relieve stress from ear pressure, chew gum. You can also swallow or yawn. Using ear plugs will also regulate ear pressure. If you are traveling with an infant, use a pacifier or give them a bottle during take offs and landings.

If you have allergies or upper respiratory congestion, take an antihistamine or a decongestant spray prior to flying. This will help with ear pressure pain.

If you had dental work, try to avoid flying for 12 hours after having the work done. The change in cabin pressure can be painful.

Avoid eating junk foods high in sugar and caffeinated drinks. They can cause a temporary surge in energy and then followed by a lull

Drink fluids: water or natural juices to keep you hydrated and prevent deep vein thrombosis

Exercise your feet while sitting. Flexing your feet and moving them in a circular direction will exercise your calf muscles. Leave room under the seat in front of you so you can stretch your legs or walk in the aisle for circulation.

Reduce motion sickness by sitting at a window seat near the plane’s wings. That will reduce the motion you feel. It’s also a good idea to open the air vent and avoid reading.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes to help prevent discomfit and swollen feet.

Another Helpful Tip:

In Case of an Emergency, you should also have on hand your medical history, which would include: your blood type, any pre-existing conditions, list of allergies and any medications you are currently taking. Have emergency contact numbers available.

Laws & Penalties / Driving Under the Influence

Since I live in the State of New Jersey, I thought I would post the current laws and penalties when driving under the influence of alcohol. The law has changed and I myself didn’t realize the percentage was lowered when considered guilty for drunk driving or while under the influence.

If a person is operating a motor vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.08 percent or greater, you will be found guilty of drunk driving. Although the law states 0.08%, you could actually be found guilty of driving under the influence even when your percentage is below the 0.08.

1st Offense
If the person’s blood alcohol concentration is 0.08 or higher, but less than 0.10 percent, or if the person operates a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, or if the person permits another person who is under the influence or has a blood alcohol concentration over 0.08, but less than 0.10 percent, the penalties are:

* A fine of $250 - $400
* Possible imprisonment for up to 30 days
* 3 month license suspension
* A minimum of 6 hrs a day for 2 consecutive days in an Intoxicated Driver Resource Center
* Automobile surcharge of $1,000 a year for 3 year

If the person’s blood alcohol concentration is above 0.10 percent:
·Fine of $300-$500
·Possible imprisonment for up to 30 days
·License suspension between 7 months and 1 year
·Six hrs. a day for 2 days in an Intoxicated Driver Resource Center
·Auto surcharge of $1,000 per year for 3 years

2nd Offense
Fine $500-$1000
Imprisonment of at least 48 consecutive hrs and up to 90 days
2 year license suspension
Auto insurance surcharge of $1,000 a year for 3 years
30 days community service

3rd Offense
Fine of $1,000
Imprisonment of 180 days
10 year license suspension
Auto insurance surcharge of $1,500 a year for 3 years

> Any offense can also include you having to deposit $100 into a drunk driving enforcement fund.
> Motor Vehicle restoration fee of $100 and an Intoxicated Driving Program fee of $100
> A violent Crimes Compensation Fund Fee of $50
> A safe and secure community program fee of $75
> $100 surcharge ($50 to the state and $50 to municipality in which you were convicted)

In addition to all the penalties and fees listed, a judge may also order that the installation of an Ignition Interlock Device be installed or revoke your vehicle’s registration. The Ignition Interlock Device measures the person’s blood alcohol level.

Did you know that if you refuse a breath test, you could have your license suspended up to one year and be fined $250-$500? And that’s only for the first offense.

A Drink is a Drink:
Beer: 12oz = 4.5% alcohol = .54 oz amount alcohol
Wine: 5oz = 11% alcohol = .55 oz amount alcohol
Alcohol: 1 1/3 = 40% alcohol = ..53 oz amount of alcohol

Music Memories

My cousin had an unique baby shower. Her and her husband not only invited friends and relatives, but spouses, significant others and children. It was a beautiful day and they turned this baby shower into a pool and barbecue party.

It really was a good time and I thought it was a great idea. As the hours passed, the music turned a bit nostalgic. We're an Italian family and out of the stereo speakers were old Italian songs blasting. Some made famous by ole blues eyes, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. As the songs played, we all had a 'moment'. One by one you can see the look of recognition as a song came on that brought back a memory. I was even saying...I remember when...
My parents, aunts and uncles always had these songs playing.

Before you knew it, we were all laughing and singing and dancing to the tunes. I asked my cousin which CD was playing because my Mom and I particularly liked the Dean Martin songs. She told me is was Martin Sands, which is a live performance, known to be an historic event at the Sands. Let me explain that this CD was not just music, it was comedy. Dean Martin's jokes and comments had us all hysterical. His style was unique and there will never be another entertainer like him.

Has music ever brought you to think of a childhood memory?

If you like the old songs made famous by Dean Martin, you really should check this one out. It made us laugh and it just has that light, feel good feeling. It's always nice to walk down memory lane...

The Benefits of the Acai Berry

If you are not familiar with the acai berry, it is known to increase energy, stamina, vitality and promote overall well being. It also is high in antioxidants and helps fight premature aging.
It contains fatty acids and omegas, which helps lowers harmful cholesterol and sterols that helps in the reduction of blood plasma cholesterol. The acai berry is also an excellant source of dietary fiber.

I had posted a three part series about the acai berry and it's benefits on my blog: Mind,Body & Soul back in March.

The Benefits of the Acai Berry-Part 1
26 Reasons to Drink Acai Berry Juice-Part 2
26 Reasons to Drink Acai Berry Juice-Part 3

The acai berry grows on palm trees in the amazon rain forest. They are considered to be the most nutritious and edible berry on the planet. The berries are dark purple and about the size of a blueberry with a thin layer of edible pulp surrounding a large seed.

I found that at the Total Health Shop, they provide not only the best price, but their unique blend of juice provides the best benefits. In their acai berry juice, you will also find additional ingredients.

See below:

Essential Vitamins and Minerals: B1, B2, B3, C & E, Calcium and Potassium.

Essential Fatty Acids: (Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9). These polyunsaturated essential fatty acids help lower LDL (harmful cholesterol) while maintaining HDL (beneficial cholesterol). This unique ratio resembles the same combination as olive oil. Omega fatty acids can increase healthy cell development. Omega fatty acids are essential for healthy nervous system development and regeneration. They help rapidly repair and rejuvenate muscles after intense exercise. Essential fatty acids (Omega-3 in particular) help the brain to run smoothly.

Interesting Facts About Coke

The next time you open a can or bottle of Coke to drink, you may want to read the below facts before actually drinking it. With the exception of #7, the following facts are alittle disturbing, don't you think? I am not a soda drinker at all, but for those who make soda their everyday choice of drink, what is it doing to your body? Very interesting...

#1 In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a b owl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3 To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.

#4 To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5 To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

#6 To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7 To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil,
allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous
brown gravy.

#8 To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1 The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2 To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous material place
card reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3 The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Be Water Smart

To many, water seems to be plentiful and cheap. We turn on our fauets and leave the water running and running. But in reality, water is becoming limited.

Only 2.5 percent of the water on earth is considered fresh water. A small percent is available to us through lakes, rivers and streams. And, this unfornuately is in danger of drying up or becoming polluted.

If we become water smart and develop habits to save water, we can help this potential problem.

Tips to save water:

> Turn off water while brushing your teeth

> Buy a low flow toliet

> Take shorter showers, avoid taking baths

> Plant drought tolerant plants

> If you must water plants and your lawn, do so in the early morning and avoid misting sprinklers

> Use soaker hoses

> Sweep and don't hose down driveways, paths and patios.

> Refill reusable bottles with filtered water instead of buying bottled water

> Eat less meat. Did you know that to produce a quarter pound beef patty, it requires as much as 2,900 gallons of water according to Cornell University researchers.

Citizen vs Illegal Alien

I received this in my email in box. It is an actual letter sent from a resident of Iowa. Even with the sarcastic tone, he hits on several key points. What are your thoughts after reading this?

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen
is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a
good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes
every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way
that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result
for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal
(retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would
be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,
Donald Ruppert
Burlington , IA

SEE THE WORLD LIKE IT IS

The truth is what it is.
It's neither good nor bad.
It's simple reality.

Tailor your concepts to fit reality,
instead of trying to stuff reality into your concepts.
No matter what you believe,
it won't change the facts.

If we all worked on the assumption
that what is accepted as true is really true,
there would be little hope of advancement in the world.

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.
If fifty-million people say a foolish thing, it's still a foolish thing.
Successful people are realistic
and aren't trapped by false appearances.

Stay realistic on the road to success.

Real Or Not? Zenni Optical

I have in the past presented a post on ZenniOptical.com. This is an online optical site where you can purchase from a wide range of fashion frames and have your prescription filled that you received from your eye doctor. The cost for a complete set of eyeglasses start at $8.00. This company has no middlemen. They manufacture their own lenses and sell direct to the customer.

Recently Fox News ran a story on Zenni Optical called 'Deal or Dud?'. Their own reporter gives a presentation from start to finish when buying a pair of glasses on their site.

Using Affirmations As A Tool

Do you find that you repeat the same mistakes over and over? Do you find the way you act in and react to situations aren't working? Do you have regrets?
There are ways you can move forward and break your negative routine.

Are you open minded enough to use affirmations as a tool to embrace the new? Using affirmations can release yourself from negative patterns. Affirmations are a way to feel better about ourselves. Repeating affirmations train our minds to bring positive and useful thoughts instead of repeating the same old unhelpful images and thoughts that make us feel negative.

If you are holding onto the past by dwelling on past mistakes, past hurts and so on, you will not move forward with an open mind or heart. Every experience we encounter is a learning one. Try to embrace the lesson and move forward.

An affirmation that may help....fill in the blank to suit your situation

It (has been) or (used to be) hard, but I am learning to do ________.

You can change any negative thought by replacing it with a positive one. It might even help to write down your negative thoughts and change it on paper to a positive one. Then repeat it.

Writing down your negative thoughts may help bring awareness to the many negative thoughts you actually 'hear'.

If you can't write down your thoughts,as soon as you hear a negative thought, say cancel...and replace it with a positive. After awhile, this will become routine for you and you will do this automatically. You will be surprised at how easily positive thinking will become.

Remember: Positive thinking creates positive results
