Is There Harm in Half Truths?
Are you one who feels the need to make up excuses for something in your life? Maybe this helps psychologically or emotionally... maybe someone does this so not too much is revealed about themselves, family or experiences.
Excuses are used to make one feel better about behaviors that we are not proud of, decisions made that we try to justify. Maybe the truth would be too embarrassing and don't want to share it with others.
Is there harm in telling half truths?
If excuses are getting in the way of leading a responsible life, attaining your goals, excessively used in the work place or within relationships, then you may need to ask yourself why you choose to be less than truthful.
Several reasons can be fear of rejection, scrutiny of others, fear of getting close to someone. Ego is said to be a factor with habitual excuse making, but this usually results in the reverse. What you end up feeling is deflated self worth.
How do you feel when being less than honest?
Excuses are often used to hide our shortcomings or give a better light to failures. People try to justify their excuses. If making excuses doesn't feel good or you achieve a kind of euphoria from excessive excuse making, then it might be time to change your ways.
Twisting the truth could become a way of life. Believing in your own excuses, using one excuse then needing another one, just diggs yourself deeper.
Taking responsibility for your actions, admitting any failures and accepting who you are can be emotionally freeing.
It is often merely for an excuse that we say things are impossible.

I think ,telling truth as it is, require lot of courage and we fear for so many things because we are mortals and we humnas ruled by emotions, imperfection is in our nature thats how god made us to speak...Thats one part, second part is we could speak truth in out of 1000 at least 990times but we dont do it now in modern times where character buliding or taking moral stand seems forgone chapter so many reason for that loss in character not one factor...However thinking utopian society is like seeing dream where every people is truthful and honest..Good and evil will live as because one gone then life will become linear which will be again non-existant and ...But i agree that we could tell at least tell truh in more than 90 cases. We should speak as much truth as posiible but 100%? ,don't know..I would say one nice story of man who wanted to go HEAVEAN,when he reached there he found lot of gorgeous women there not a single ugly women then he asked gatekeeper ,"Is there any ugly women "he said, no..Then that man seen river when he drank it he felt he was taking drink,he asked again with that man and he said, thats how it is here ..He went in room and he found million of precious gold ,diamond he was mesmerised and again asked "is there anything ugly or evil materials" that man again said,no..
He become bored after living day in heaven he asked God please resend him again on earth as life is never linear on earth it always moves changes colours and thats what life stand for..
Thats all excuse but I agree you are right...
Interesting post. A tendency to make excuses can really affect our long-term goals, especially when it comes to business and improving our lives. This article reminds me of some of the blog posts I recently read on Marcus Hochstadt's website. He has a lot of meaningful advice like this, as well.
Yes. Good post. Carrying 'truth baggage' around is also a waste of personal time and personal energy, when the same could be used to everyone's advantage in our everyday interactions with friends, colleagues, and even strangers.
There is a classic saying that "The truth will set you free." I like a different corollary of the same, which goes "If you always tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." Feng Shui for the honesty you owe to yourself and others. Lose the baggage.
Thank you all for sharing and visiting.
I enjoyed reading your comments and I think we are all in agreement that half truths and lying is not in our best interst. However, can anyone really tell the truth 100%, as Ajay mentioned?
Making excuses, as Melanie said, just keeps us from being positive and achieving our goals. When excuses are constantly used, we are fooling ourselves, aren't we? to the truth, the situation or circumstance.
I agree with Anonymous, who said carrying around the truth baggage is a waste of energy. It just weighs you down and sucks the life out of you.
I do feel that telling the truth as much as possible to others and ourselves is a much better option.
Thank you all for being here.
